Wolves 1-3 Bolton: Cesar Peixoto's side fall to first home Championship defeat of the season

Wolves suffered their first home Championship defeat of the season as Bolton won 3-1 at Molineux.

Atsuki Ito gave Steven Schumacher's visitors a deserved 28th-minute lead and although Jean-Ricner Bellegarde equalised five minutes after the break, substitute Sam Dalby and Josh Sheehan struck in the last 20 minutes to secure back-to-back away wins for Bolton.

Samuel Iling-Junior missed a one-on-one chance to put the away side ahead in the 11th minute.

Sheehan split the Wolves defence to put the on-loan Aston Villa winger clean through with only Jose Sa to beat.

But the Portuguese goalkeeper was perfectly placed to block Iling-Junior's low shot and the loose ball was cleared.

Bolton had another chance to take the lead but Sheehan's deflected drive from the edge of the box drew a superb diving save from Sa to his right.

Mateus Mane had Wolves' first chance and he went within a whisker of the far post with a curling effort just wide.

Bolton took the lead when Sa appeared to flap at Sheehan's cross from Iling-Junior's short corner and although Ladislav Krejci nodded clear, Ito fired home from 10 yards.

Wolves were starting to come more into the game and the unmarked Fer Lopez headed straight at goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu from Hugo Bueno's cross.

Bueno was next to try his luck with a curling effort from 22 yards that just spun wide, away from the far post at the last moment.

Wolves brought themselves level in the 50th minute.

Bellegarde controlled Krejci's long diagonal pass and held off Akin Famewo before firing a low shot into the far bottom corner of the net.

Krejci glanced just over from Kieran Trippier's free-kick as Wolves continued to press.

Mane curled inches over the bar from 25 yards and Adam Armstrong flashed an effort into the sidenetting from Jordan James' cross as the hosts probed for a second goal.

Armstrong then somehow hit Bazunu from point-blank range from substitute Rafiki Said's cross.

But completely against the run of play, Bolton regained the lead in the 72nd minute.

Gaizka Larrazabal crossed after a one-two with Ethan Erhahon and Dalby finished at the near post.

Lopez ballooned a shot over the crossbar as Wolves desperately tried to find an equaliser.

But instead the next goal came from the visitors in the 82nd minute when Sheehan capped a fine performance with a looping shot into the top corner from 20 yards that Sa could not get to.

Wolves' Cesar Peixoto:

"The 3-1 scoreline is an unfair result because we created a lot of chances.

"We deserved more because we were the better team. The team showed effort, courage and commitment all of the game but sometimes this happens in football.

"I am responsible for the result. The players and I have to do better.

"We have to be more clinical from the edge of the box and with the last cross or last pass.

"We have to win the duels inside the box but we dominated the game.

"I'd be more worried if we weren't putting the ball in the box, but inside of the box we can do better."

Bolton's Steven Schumacher:

"It's right up there because they were a Premier League team last season.

"It was a really good result and a really important one. The players should be really proud of their work.

"It was a really good performance and it needed to be. They are a top team, it's a really difficult place to come so we needed everyone to play to the best of their ability and the energy to be at the top level.

"On Saturday (a 2-1 home defeat to Stoke City) we didn't perform as well as we can but tonight was excellent against a really good opponent."
